AI Assistant Privacy

What AI assistants like ChatGPT and Claude can and cannot see when patients use them to find or book at your clinic.

When a patient uses an AI assistant to find your clinic or book an appointment, both you and the patient have a right to know what data leaves Dentare and what stays inside it. This article spells that out.

What AI Assistants See

Only the public information that already appears on your booking page at dentare.io/c/<your-clinic>:

  • Clinic name, country, city, street address
  • Phone number
  • Services you have marked Show on booking page, with their durations and prices (if you chose to display prices)
  • Opening hours
  • Languages your team speaks
  • Bio text and tagline you wrote
  • Logo or cover image, if you uploaded one

Nothing else. Everything an AI assistant can describe about your clinic is already visible to anyone who opens your booking page in a browser.

What AI Assistants Never See

The list of things AI hosts (Anthropic, OpenAI, Perplexity, Google) and their indexes never receive:

  • Patient names, emails, or phone numbers
  • Medical or clinical data of any kind
  • Internal booking notes
  • Prices that are not on your booking page
  • Past appointment history
  • Patient files, X-rays, or attachments
  • Staff schedules beyond what your booking page advertises
  • Financial data, invoices, or fiscal records
  • Any data from any other Dentare clinic

If a patient asks an AI assistant something like "show me [YOUR CLINIC]'s patient list," the assistant has no way to answer that, because the data has never been exposed to it.

How Patient Verification Works

When a patient books through the Dentare connector inside an AI assistant, they go through a verification step that looks like this:

  1. The patient enters their email address on Dentare's verification page.
  2. Dentare sends a 6-digit code to that email.
  3. The patient types the code, which proves they own the address.
  4. Dentare shows a consent screen: "Allow Claude to book on your behalf?"
  5. The patient approves.

After that, the AI assistant can call Dentare on the patient's behalf for 30 days. The verified email is what we use to confirm bookings. The AI assistant never sees the email itself, it just sees a token that points to the patient's verified session.

GDPR and Western Balkans (LPDP, AZLP)

Dentare processes patient data on your clinic's behalf as a data processor under GDPR Article 28. The same applies to data flowing through the AI assistant connector.

When a patient uses Anthropic's Claude or OpenAI's ChatGPT to book at your clinic, those companies act as data-relay sub-processors. They forward the patient's messages to Dentare and our responses back to the patient, but they do not store the booking content. Their handling of the patient's chat history is governed by their own privacy terms, which the patient agreed to when they signed up for the AI assistant.

The full disclosure, including which sub-processors are involved when you enable the AI directory, is in the MCP Integrations section of the Dentare Privacy Policy.

For clinics in North Macedonia (LPDP), Albania, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Serbia, the same posture applies under each country's local data protection law. The Privacy Policy lists the supervisory authority for every Western Balkans jurisdiction Dentare operates in.

How Patients Revoke Access

A patient who installed the Dentare connector inside an AI assistant can disconnect it at any time:

  • In Claude: Settings -> Connectors -> Dentare -> Disconnect
  • In ChatGPT (when available): Settings -> Apps -> Dentare -> Remove

Disconnecting immediately invalidates the access token the assistant was using. No further bookings can be created on the patient's behalf until they reconnect. Bookings already in your queue stay valid, the patient's relationship with your clinic is unchanged, only the AI assistant's access to act on their behalf is revoked.

Managing Your AI Footprint

You control whether your clinic appears in AI directory listings with the Show in AI directory switch in the Visibility tab of your booking page editor. Reach it at Settings → Booking & Forms, open the Online booking pages tab (https://dentare.io/clinic/settings/booking?tab=pages), and select Edit on your booking page. You can:

  • Switch on the directory to be discoverable
  • Switch it off to remove your clinic from new AI search results
  • Change which services appear with the per-service switches in the Services tab
  • Update your description in the Bio text field of the Page & Branding tab at any time, to refine how AI assistants describe you

Every change takes effect on Dentare immediately. AI assistants reindex on their own schedule, typically within 24 to 48 hours for removals and one to two weeks for additions.
